With five successful seasons under our belt, we are excited to offer the sixth season of our cross-ice Mite program. This program is for children born in 2008 & 2009. Mite players should be comfortable and confident skaters and have completed an Instructional Hockey program.
The Mite Hockey program will run for 20 weeks starting Wednesday, November 2, 2016. Each week there will be one weeknight and one Saturday morning practice. Games will be on Sunday mornings. For your convenience, the schedule for the season has been set and can be viewed by clicking here. (Mite Hockey Schedule)
Practices will follow the American Developmental Model (ADM) www.admkids.com where the children will be moving from station to station in order to work on skating skills, hockey skills, and small area games.
Games will be 3 vs. 3 cross-ice hockey using regulation sized nets with goalies. Players will rotate playing goalie on a week to week basis. Our hockey games are scaled down to the size of our participants to allow more action for developing players. Cross-ice play allows all players to be near the action and provides players more ice time and more puck possession.
Mite Hockey players will be divided into evenly matched teams. They will play against the other Norwood mite teams and those from Westwood, Dedham, Hyde Park, and Parkway Youth Hockey programs.
The following equipment is required:
Hockey helmet with full faceguard
A team jersey will be provided.
Volunteers both on and off the ice are needed. All on-ice volunteers must formally register as coaches with NYH and www.usahockey.com before stepping on the ice.
